Disembodied
Graduating Thesis
Disembodied visualizes embodied phrases through a lens of dysphoria and dysmorphia to contrast the body as a personifying force for language, yet a source of dehumanization for people.
Disembodied was the keystone project of my Illustration degree, created over the course of my graduating year. This year also happened to be when I have finally scheduled my top surgery.
This set of oil paintings has become an expression of all the dysphoria and dysmorphia I have ever felt while trapped in my body. A release and catharsis to the suffering of the trans experience, and the
Overwhelming joy of making your body your own.
Each piece tackles a form of dysmorphia in the human body by visualizing it through an idiom, and as a system of the human body.
